EY2010 - 2010 European Year to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion
The EY2010 Launch Event for Oxfordshire will take place on Thursday 11th February in Oxford Town Hall, from 10.00am to 1.00pm (registration starting at 9.30am).
This will be a chance for you to hear first hand from the Director General of the Department of Work and Pensions, Adam Sharples, about what the European Year means to this region. He will be attending along with other DWP staff. And Andrew Smith, Gatehouse Project Director will join a panel of local people with an interest in different aspects of poverty.
A big part of the event is the Debate on Poverty and Social Exclusion here in Oxfordshire. The debate will be chaired by BBC Oxford drive time presenter Bill Heine. You will have the chance to voice your suggestions on how to alleviate poverty in Oxfordshire. The debate will be recorded and broadcast either in full or with highlights.
The debate will discuss four key themes:
Child poverty Working age poverty/ social exclusion Severe, multiple deprivation and those who are most at risk of social exclusionOlder people and poverty/social exclusionOn the day, we aim to highlight the main problem areas concerning deprivation, share good practice and identify changes that need to be made. The debate will be interactive and open to an audience for opinions and questions. It will a perfect opportunity to bring local issues around social exclusion in front of key policy decision makers and stakeholders and join together to pledge ‘One Big Change’.
This will be a great opportunity for Gatehouse supporters to be involved, so do come along if you can.
