The Food Bank

Have you heard about plans for a "Food Bank" in Oxford. This would ensure good food which would otherwise be disposed of as waste can go instead to people who need it. Supermarkets, restaurants, bakeries with unsold food at the end of the day would all co-operate.

The GOOD NEWS is that the Oxford Food Bank was officially "launched" in October 2009, by charity Re-plenish. This followed a 3-month trial period, which included daily deliveries to the Gatehouse - mainly bread and fruit. Initially, the project will concentrate on foods which do not need cold storage, but these will be added over time.
