Thank You, contd

December 2009 (story and picture from the Oxford Mail)

Pupils at St Aloysius Primary in Woodstock Road made more than 24 litres of vegetable soup to donate to homeless people at the Gatehouse.

Acting headteacher Maureen Thompson said: "One of our key objectives is to work in the community with our children to make sure they are citizens of the community as well as citizens of the school. To do that they need to work with people less fortunate than themselves. Working on the soup for homeless people allows the children to donate the vegetables, to do the cooking and the preparation, and see the outcome of what they made."

Fans of Wheatley-based Supergrass who attended the band’s Christmas party gig at the Regal in Cowley last Friday night were surprised to see not just one but two twin Santas collecting for charity in the foyer. They filled two buckets with cash for the homeless as part of this year’s Sleep-Out appeal and raised a total of £337.56.

Gatehouse Project Director, Andrew Smith said: “It was a bitterly cold night and I think everybody wanted those outside to have something to celebrate, too.” Volunteer Laura Duncan shared fundraising duties along with Bruce Douglas. She said: “It was wonderful that people were so generous.”

November 2009

In collaboration with our local partners working to support the homeless and poorly-housed, The Gatehouse was involved in the annual Oxford Sleep-Out on 14th November. Support for this event comes from many sources: those who sleep out, or sponsor others who do, those who organise mini-sleep-outs in churches, schools or colleges and those who pay to sleep in the comfort of their own bed. To all of those - many thanks.
